Greetings, Friends and Brothers!
Many of you who are friends on Facebook are also Freemasons and may very well take interest in a lecture I shall be delivering in November pertaining to the Holy Saints John of Freemasonry. The lecture, properly entitled “Polarities of the Holy Saints John: The Confluent Forces in our Lives and in Nature,” will be hosted by Victorville Lodge, No 634, Free and Accepted Masons of California. While this lecture is admittedly Masonic in nature, it will not be tyled and will be open to a mixed audience.
The Holy Saints John, specifically John the Baptist, and John the Evangelist, are peculiar attributions named by the craft of Freemasonry, which claims to be non-sectarian. While the fraternity is not entirely secular, it continues to enjoy universal religious appeal, justifying its traditional adoption of the two biblical figures. This lecture verifies the reasons for the veneration, while not yielding to core religious doctrine that would otherwise designate the institution as utterly Christian. Astronomical phenomena are essential to the explanation and relevance to Freemasonry, thus removing the subject, in part at least, from the realm of pure religion and relating it more appropriately to architecture and a fundamental and philosophical disposition for balance.
The presentation will certainly draw the interest of Freemasons in general, especially those who might have pondered the question about the relevance of the sainthood associations, and more especially those who view the principle of polarities as the criterion for balance in art, and the bases for endurance and perpetuity in architecture. Whatever philosophically may be achieved in the great fabrics of architecture, translates to the spiritual temple erected by each individual and collectively, therefore, to the uplifting of the human condition.
